The Beginning

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.  ~Psalm 118:6

The foundation for this blog, the quote from Psalm 118 is one of my absolute favorites. I have overcome much in my life, and I have much more ahead of me, but I know that with God on my side, I have nothing to fear.

As a 20-something, I’m in an uncertain place in my life. I’m trying to get settled in a career, find my way on my own as an adult, navigate relationships, and much more. It’s hard to fit everything in and find a balance that works for me. I look at my friends and others around my age, and I notice that I’m one of the few that is still active in my Catholic faith. I realize that many find it time-consuming, or backwards, or just not important; however, faith is the cornerstone of my life.

I know that I would not be where I am today without my faith – I would’ve been lost in a current going nowhere fast. My faith has helped to shape me, it’s taught me that things will come around, the days will be brighter, that I am capable of anything as long as I have God on my side. My faith has helped me to overcome depression and anxiety, and it continues to bring me comfort in times of struggle.

psalm-118-6

Psalm 118:6 reminds us that God holds us in His arms and guides us, that He will never leave us alone. In a world of fast-paced everything, where ghosting is a thing and people drop in and out of our lives with amazing speed, we need that constant of God in our lives. As someone trying to find my way as a functional adult, the knowledge that God is always on my side is tremendously comforting, especially when I get knocked down, or when I feel like I’m trying to make it completely alone in the world. That’s the beautiful thing about my faith in God – I know that even if (God forbid!) my friends and family were to disappear tomorrow, I still wouldn’t be alone. That’s what allows me to be fearless in life and in my faith – knowing that despite any failures or mishaps, and amongst my celebrations and my successes, I have a constant source of love and support in God.
